Ring Box for Rob & Melissa's Wedding
I made this for my brother and his wife to use on their wedding day. It's made of purpleheart and I just cut and ground flush steel drill bits as pins for the hinges. I had a general shape in mind when I started but it kind of evolved as I went along. I was literally working on finishing this the day before my flight for about 10 hours and didn't add the velvet and the padding until I got to Philly for the wedding. Actually Rob had to drive me to a fabric shop to get the velvet.
The pieces were cut on the bandsaw and then I used a belt sander to get the final outside shape. All the while using masking tape to keep the pieces all in place while doing the shaping. Just kept adding more tape as I moved around the outside. A bunch of hand sanding to get the inside cavity to the right shape. Then a whole lot of hand filing and sanding to get the hinge bottom to match the hinge top so it could open smoothly yet still remain snug.
